Curriculum

These are the guidelines for each week's activities; they will change occasionally depending on the group.

ˇ I am a person
I am not valued just on my appearance, or what I have or do not have. My values lie in who I am.

Decorative name tags showing unique qualities. Collage expressing their interests and hobbies. Rock painting to express their creativity and individuality.

ˇ Group dynamics
Being flexible, empathetic, and understanding are very important concepts to be successful in today's society.

 The girls will be given the ingredients for a recipe and they need to work as a group to ensure that they can prepare and cook a good meal. Cooking ideas: homemade pizza, cookies, and apple crisp

ˇ Sometimes I have strong feelings
 Everyone has feelings. This week will focus on the how girls' emotions fluctuate and change in time.

 Girls will decorate a jar to write down their feelings and can share with the group or not. Girls will discuss different emotions that they feel and follow up with a journaling and collage activity.

ˇ Friendship
 The girls will discuss the complex and important aspects of having healthy friendships and being a good friend.

 Girls will learn a weaving technique to make friendship bracelets.

ˇ Friendship issues
 This is a complex and important topic and we want to give the girls ample time to discuss their opinions and feelings.

 Open forum discussion. 
 Role-playing of different friendship situations.

ˇ How do you react?

 This week will have the girls focus on how the react to different situations. Girls will take a fun quiz that will display how they react to different situations.

 ˇ I can make decisions through learning and growing everyday and through my mistakes.

 A cooking exercise so that the girls can learn to work together. Learning to solve problems and conflicts in the best interest of the group.

ˇSometimes I say NO

 This week the girls will role-play to learn the appropriate and inappropriate times to say NO. Helping each other make the right individual and group choices for the group.

ˇ I have needs and goals

 The girls will write about their needs and goals and how to accomplish them.Sharing with the group will give the girls an opportunity to hear that they are not alone and to learn to depend on the other girls to help them meet their needs and goals.

ˇ I am myself, special and unique

 The girls will take a Polaroid picture that displays their unique style and creative spirit. Share photos with the group.

ˇ Community Volunteer Project
 Learning the importance of volunteering and expanding their vision of their world.

ˇ Conclusion
 This session will be about spending time together reflecting upon their individual and group experience.

 Sharing stories, memories, and insights about themselves and each other, an intuitive time to complete their Blooming Girls experience.

Blooming Girls provides a safe and inspiring environment for girls aged 5-12 years old, where they can develop the life skills needed to reach their highest potential. Through individual, group and community-based outreach activities, Blooming Girls aims to nurture and advance within each girl a sense of: Confidence, Self-Esteem, Individuality, Creativity, Integrity, Responsibility for Self and Community, Friendship
